How it works

1. Paste

One reference per line. Refvera understands APA, Vancouver, Chicago and MLA – including numbered lists, “et al.” and DOI links.

2. The engine checks

Every reference is looked up in eight open registries, including CrossRef, OpenAlex, Open Library and three national libraries. If the first pass finds nothing, a safety net takes over with broader searches.

3. The verdict is documented

Each answer shows what was confirmed (title, authors, year, journal, volume, pages) and what deviates. Copy the report straight into your notes.

The honesty principle: Refvera never claims a source is fake. It distinguishes found, partial match with deviations and not found in these sources – and always lists which registries were searched. That is also why there is no red in Refvera. Refvera verifies that sources exist and that the details are correct – against all the major open registries. It does not replace reading the sources, and it never passes judgement.

Note: the tool interface is currently in Norwegian. Coverage is strongest for Norwegian and Nordic sources, plus international journal articles via CrossRef and OpenAlex.
